Ive changed blogging platforms, from the very great and unimpeachable
[35]ExpressionEngine to the also-great and more popular (probably
because its free) [36]WordPress. Some things are broken at the
moment, like the old RSS feeds. And there are some features missing
that are probably going to stay missing, like the old membership
system. Ill get the links working again soon at any rate. Well, hope
you like it! I sure am having fun playing with it. Im going to start
including daily Twitter digests in my blog so it wont be so quiet
around here. (And you can post comments to them as well, unlike on
Twitter.) Anyone can comment, and once you get a comment approved
youll be unmoderated from there on out. (Provided you behave
yourself. ;-)

Okay, so... heres the deal yall. The phrase scintillating scotoma"
is now outranking my own damn name in Google search queries leading to
this site. Which means migraine auras are more famous than I am, and
we ABSOLUTELY cant have that, can we? Just kidding. Its not a bad
thing, it just means our little group has grown to magnificent
proportions, so much so that its probably outgrown its living
quarters. Time to give it a home of its own. So... I hope this isnt
totally lame of me, but please say hello to the new Google Group I
just created, with the brilliant and original name Scintillating
Its totally empty right now. But once I get my shit together, Ill
post an archive of this sites SS-related entries and comments to a
page in that group, for easy reference. I wont post any of yalls
e-mail addresses, dont worry, just the comments themselves. And if
anybody doesnt want their old comment appearing over there, just let
me know and Ill get rid of it, no prob.
Its been deeply interesting for me to host this group over the years,
and I fully intend to keep it going, just not so much *here*. I hope
yall understand... ::sniff::

The fifth annual [68]Rock for Kids Music Mixer is happening
(belatedly, due to weather) tomorrow night at the Smart Bar in
Chicago. I didnt participate this year, but if youre interested you
can check the searchbox for the mixes I did in years past. Its a fun
party and it looks like therell be a lot of goodies to be had, so get
out there and show `em yer love if youre in town! For those who
arent, theres also a system in place to bid by proxy.

In the last post I talked a little about how we now have RSS* comments
feeds on a per-post basis. All but useless to anybody who doesnt
follow that one particular thread of mine that gets all the
comments!! So heres something for the rest of yall. A sitewide
comments feed. Its a master list of the most recent fifty comments,
as they come in, no matter where they show up on this site. Just like
the Recent comments..." thingy on my front page, but in RSS form, and
with full comments instead of snippets.
So yeah, at this point I have almost 3000 potential feeds being served
up here, I shit you not. Three normal feeds, a comments feed, and one
for each of the 2800-someodd blog entries. Can I think up a few
more? I bet I will!
(Oh, dude... dont tell me your life has yet to be transformed by the
power of syndication! Read [74]this.)

Awhile back in Chicago, Leroy Bach asked me to join in on a song he
was recording. I was to be singing in a girly trio type thing along
with my good pals, the divas of the barroom, Kelly Hogan and
Nora OConnor. It was for a project he was producing for his friend
[93]Sonny Smith. Sonny is awesome. Hes a San Francisco native, a
traveling-troubadour type dude, the kind of guy who always wears a
hat. Hes toured around and recorded with some of my most esteemed
musical contemporaries, like Jolie Holland and Neko Case. So anyway,
this records been out for a few months now. Its called FRUITVALE and
its very very good. Ive been negligent about posting it to my
discography--got my copy last week though, so [94]here it is.
